short trip to shanghai

Any opportunity I can get out of Shenyang, is very welcome! So, a view days ago I went to Shanghai  to visit a friend. She was bored, I had time and so a perfect shopping trip was born.

I loooove Shanghai. It is different than Shenyang in so many ways. So international. And it starts with all the delicious restaurants you can find on every corner. Salads in various styles - I liiike :D In Shenyang you will may be able to find a Ceasar Salad on a menu - but the thing you get served is sometimes very different than what you expect, when ordering this particular salad.

Thanx Schoko for the relaxed 2 days. Don't be surprised, when I show up out of the blue again!

Salaaaaaaad

I even shopped some art. Sooo hard to find something cool in China.

You know why...

It's a Barbie world out there... waiting for you to get you :)

eurovision songcontest ... in china

I find des supaaaaa.

Even here in China the Eurovision Songcontest was in the news. How cool is that, we won ... For the 2nd time after 48 years and thanks to the Chinese, I can also watch and download the whole thing over and over again.

Yaaaaayyyyyy. And to put it in the words of the Austrian commentator: Now she actually won that shit ... !

and then there was a dog

-----

Today at university I fell in love with a small furry something, which approached me out of the blue and wrapped me with lots of cuddles around its paw. Basically, I'm against touching animals here in China. What does not really have to do so much with the animal itself, but rather with the hygiene condition of the city. Because everything which touches the street of Shenyang once is lost - like forever. This applies to pretty much everything you carry around, except your purse and your keys...

it's hard to be an animal in china

Chinese don't have a natural affection for animals. Well, that fact isn't that surprising at all, when you recall, that 1.3 billion people need to be fed. And that's the reason why everything which is fast enough on the tree, is going to be brought down as well.

Are you also an Indiana Jones fan? Are you able to recall every line in the movie? And do you remember the scene in the Temple of Doom, where all the guests are getting monkey brain served? Well, back then I was able to tell myself, that this is pure fiction, because nobody would ever eat that, right?

See, here I was wrong. And actually it gets worse... There are restaurants in China, here in Shenyang, where you can see cages with little monkeys inside. And if you are ordering a monkey brain in such a particular restaurant - and if you are sensitive you should stop reading NOW - the little monkey is going to be fixated at the table and you can eat it's brain out of the still alive monkey.

Well, such restaurants are not regularly visited by foreigners, because the rest of the menu also reminiscence of a slaughter at an animal cemetery. I actually refused to believe this story, but various of my Chinese friends verified it.

And suddenly all the much discussed animal transporters in Europe don't seem so cruel anymore. At least the animals are killed quickly and don't need to suffer at all. Because no Westerner would ever come up with the idea to bite in the leg of a living cow.

Oh, and since we are already in the topic: yes, also true here in China and called 'donkey or cow poured over'. And if you are ordering that, you don't just take a bite from the leg of a living donkey. No. You choose the part you want to eat and this part is going to be poured over with hot water until the meat is ready for consumption - the animal is still alive...
